|Civil War Experience: Enlisted Aug. 26, 1861 as Drum Major in Co H, 6th NJ Vol. Inf.
In July 1862, during the Seven Day Fight near Richmond Harrison's Landing, VA, he contracted a "heavy" cold resulting in chronic inflammation of the lungs. He was honorably discharged Sept. 9, '62 at U.S. General Hospital, Newark, NJ. He reenlisted Dec. 30, 1863 in Co A, 3rd NJ Cavalry as a Bugler. He was honorably discharged from this unit Aug. 1, 1865.
